  • All artists at Studio Baby can book you in for an appointment. Walk in spaces are possible, but not guaranteed, you might just have to try your luck!

  • Parking in Brighton isn't easy to come by! We recommend coming by public transport, there are multiple bus stops nearby, and the studio is a 15-20 minute walk from Brighton Station. If you do choose to come by car please research the nearest carpark, such as NCP or Churchill Square, before your travels.

  • Studio Baby began as a private studio, designed to be a relaxed and welcoming space to be tattooed in. Over time Studio Baby has become home to a range of artists, all of whom put as much care into your experience as your tattoo design. After all, your tattoo is forever, but so is your memory of getting it done! We will ask for your consent throughout your appointment, take our time, make sure you're feeling alright and do our absolute best to make sure you're having a good time!

We offer our professional advice and opinion, but won’t start tattooing until we’re both confident that the size and placement of your stencil is right. You’ll be given the space to ask any questions you have, before, during and after your appointment.

Studio Baby has multiple resident artists, but also hosts a variety of guest artists from all over the world

  • Tattooing produces a lot of waste, due to the high amount of disposable items that are used.

We will always prioritise health, hygiene and safety, but these are some of the ways that we try to make the studio more environmentally friendly:

bamboo kitchen roll and toilet roll, biodegradable ink cups / razors / plastics, eco friendly soap, recyclable cans of water and lemonade, recycling bin, washable mop pads, lots of real plants throughout the studio

  • / arrive to your appointment on time (please do not arrive more than 10 minutes early)

/ bring a valid ID to show that you are 18+

/ make sure you’ve eaten a substantial meal beforehand and you’re well hydrated, please bring some water and a snack

/ wear appropriate clothing for your tattoo. Loose, comfy, dark coloured clothing is usually best. If you’re not sure what to wear, please ask your artist

/ allow for enough time, we can’t always predict how long your appointment will take, and you can’t rush a tattoo

/ please ask for permission if you’d really like to bring someone along, there’s limited space in the studio

/ there will be plenty of time to adjust the design if needed and find the right size and placement for your tattoo, only once you’re happy with everything will we start tattooing

  • / please let your artist know at any time if you need a break, stretch, drink, different position or anything else, we want you to be as comfortable as possible

/ You can have a chat with your artist, but if you’d like to just be quiet that’s no problem at all

/ you’re welcome to listen to music, a podcast, scroll on your phone or read a book to keep yourself busy or distracted

/ there are face masks available for free at the studio for you and your artist

/ you are always allowed to change your mind at any point, there is never any pressure to get something tattooed that you’re not sure about

  • Aftercare advice varies per artist, depending on their style of tattoo and personal preference, but here are some basic instructions

/ wash your tattoo at least once a day with warm soapy water

/ pat dry with a clean towel

/ while your tattoo is healing it will become flaky and itchy, please moisturise with a thin layer of a creme recommended by your artist, don't smother your tattoo, your skin needs to be able to breathe still

/ don’t scratch your tattoo or pick at scabs

/ no baths, no swimming and no sun for the first 2-4 weeks

/ your tattoo should be healed in 2-4 weeks

/ if there are any issues or worries, please seek professional medical advice as soon as possible

  • Studio Baby is fully licensed, and so are the artists that work there

  • Depending on your artist, your tattoo will be done by machine or by hand. These techniques can feel and heal differently and they lend themselves to different styles

Getting tattooed by hand tends to be a gentler but more time consuming experience, whereas getting tattooed by machine can feel more intense, but this technique lends itself to larger and more elaborate designs

Both can result in beautiful tattoos, and the style and sensation is a matter of personal preference

  • Getting a tattoo is exciting! But especially if it's the first one, people tend to be quite nervous too. Let's try to calm some of those anxieties

    / Will it hurt

Probably a little! But your artist is there to support you and will check in with you regularly to make sure you're as comfortable as possible, plus you can always have as many breaks as you need

/ How much will it hurt though

Pain levels depend on the person (and sometimes the time of the month), placement, and tattoo design. Some areas of your body are more sensitive, but this differs between people. Moreover, bold tattoos with lots of colour and blackwork will tend to be more intense than small and delicate designs

/ What if I change my mind before (or during!) my appointment

You're always allowed to change your mind. Depending on time, we might be able to adjust your design the same day, or we can reschedule to another date. There will be plenty of time to try out different sizes and placements. And if you'd like to call the whole thing off we won't make you feel bad about that either! It's your body and your choice

    / Can I bring a friend?

Yes, but please ask for permission first, so we know what to expect and can make sure that there is enough space in the studio

/ Can I bring my dog?

We LOVE dogs, but we do ask that you check beforehand and only bring them if they can remain calm and seated throughout your appointment

/ What if I don't feel like talking?

We're always happy to chat, but if you'd like to just be quiet that's no problem at all! You're welcome to put in headphones, scroll, or play with the stim toys that we have available at the studio

/ Will there be enough privacy?

The studio is situated off the main road, just outside the centre of Brighton. There is a small seating area and space for a maximum of 3 artists. We have a semi private room available, we're happy to put down the blinds to limit street view, there are free nipple covers available and you can get changed in the bathroom if necessary. You'll never be put under pressure to remove certain clothing items or have photos taken

  • Karen is a queer artist from The Netherlands, currently based in Brighton where she lives with her partner and their four cats

After working in a few different tattoo studios, she set up Studio Baby in 2022, wanting to create a comfortable space for tattooing where clients can love their tattoo as much as their experience, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, skin colour or neurotypicality

Karen views tattoos as an act of self care, a way to feel more comfortable in your body, and an opportunity to express yourself

She does all her tattoos by hand (without a machine). It suits her style and she enjoys the process
